August fishing on Pikmiktolkik River

Waqaa,

This picture was taken last weekend when I traveled about 45 minutes South of Stebbins to Pikmiktolik river, a traditional spot for a Stebbins "fish camp". Many families will make the trip and stay on the river for the summer months in camp sites and cabins as they catch fish and dry them for the winter. We came down for the day and had some amazing fishing. I stepped off the boat and casted into the river and almost instantly had a nice sized Coho on my line. My first three casts I had fish. The only thing that stopped me from catching more was the intense mosquito's during the morning hours. We stayed nearly the whole day. In all I caught around 12 Coho. We are going to be freezing alot of the fish and this weekend myself and another teacher are going to be making some smoked Salmon. Some of the pictures are of the cabins that are used for fish camp.

School has started and things are going well. We have already completed our second week of school and the students are starting to settle into their routines.

The weather is already starting to change. We had a frost a few days ago and the nights are already starting to dip in the 30's.

Hope everyone is doing well.
