Munnuking

Waqaa,
Yesterday we went Munnuking (ice fishing) for the first time. Grace was our guide and she supplied us with the Munnuks (poles). The poles are basically sticks with string and hooks. They are a very simple type of fishing pole, but very effective. We started our trip by walking quite far out onto Norton Sounds. It was a little scary for us to walk on the ocean and to be that far from the shore. The ice is still pretty thick, but it is starting to get soft and melty on the the top. When we reached our spot we found 5 holes in the ice. Everyone starts Munnuking without any bait until someone catches a fish that gets cut up and used as bait. I caught the first one and they called it a Devil Fish. It was not the Tomcod that we were hoping for, but it made some good bait. All in all, we caught 8 fish. Camille took them home to clean them, braid them, and dry them.
After our fun, wet and cold outing, the girls came back here. We washed and dried their very wet and dirty pants and socks while they watched a movie and ate pizza.
We are finding that there are a few fun things to do around here now that the weather is getting a little warmer and it is light out until well past midnight. We have already enjoyed riding our new Honda and it is fun to explore places that we haven't really been.
Can't wait to see you!
