First Days in Alaska
Our trip began with a sad farewell to our families in the San Juan Islands over the weekend. Yesterday we left Seattle and headed for Anchorage on what we now consider a HUGE Boeing 737. Since we left Anchorage we have touched down in Kotzebue, Nome, St. Michael, Stebbins, Kotuk, and Unalakleet, where we are temporarily staying. Most of these visits were aboard an 8 person Cesna Caravan prop plane. We are spending 3 days in Unalakleet, a larger village of about 700 people, two stores, one of which had the original Super Mario Bros arcade game (Nice). Things are going well, we have met many people who have been very generous and helpful. Things are definitely still a whirlwind and we are wide eyed but enjoying our adventure.

Hi there! It's so great to hear from you so soon! I thought it would be several days before any word. I'm glad to hear that you made it safely and that there's a little piece of Ashford there to help you from getting homesick!!! :) Can't wait to hear more about all your experiences.
Miss you so much!

The Elation of Jess and Katy
There's great things done in the midnight sun, by the folks teaching way up there.
The arctic trails have their secret tales that immortalize those who dare.
The northern lights have seen awesome sights, but the best I ever did see,
was that year 'round old Norton Sound when school was taught by Jess and Katy.
