Munnuking on Punuq River

Today, we traveled five miles south of Stebbins to a river called the small channel to go Munnuking. This river is known for its good Munnuking and as you can see there were several different groups out fishing in the good weather. Recently, we have gotten a snap of cold weather. Today we had a high of about 20 degress and a low of about 10. The rivers and ocean have frozen so we were able to travel along the frozen rivers to go fishing. We had a lot of success and as you can see besides the cold it was a beautiful Artic day. We brought in about 30 Tomcods, we are going to keep a few to cook up and eat it will be the first time I've had a Tomcod. The others we will donate to the elders who like a good Tomcod.

Katy and I just got back yesterday from Unalakleet for the teacher inservice. It was not so bad this year as we got to stay with some people that we have met since coming to BSSD. They live in a brand new mountain lodge style house overlooking the town.

Time is really flying by and I can't believe that it is nearly the end of October which means on thing around here, Halloween. Stebbins really goes all out and almost everyone gets dressed up and goes Trick-or-Treating. There will be native dancing down at the hall with everyone in their costums. It is a very unique experience. We will try and take some more pictures and post them for everyone.

Later,

Jesse and Katy
