As you can tell from the picture, the ocean is starting to freeze. This is a picture that was taken on Monday as we were flying into Unalakleet. It was about 19 degrees here yesterday. We are at the inservice enjoying sleeping on the floor and eating cafeteria food. We did attend a concert last night that was awesome. The group is called Pamyua and they are all Native Alaskans, except one that married in (she's from Greenland), who sing and drum a lot of traditional Yupi'k music as well as things they have picked from their travels around the world. I bought a CD that I will send down so ask my parents if you want to hear them.
We flew over here in a tiny 207 Cessna with 6 people plus a pilot. I was worried when I saw it and only got more worried as he loaded us by weight and then decided that he needed to leave all of our baggage behind. As soon as we were loaded the plane tipped backwards and rested on its tail. It was at this point that I was willing to walk to Unalakleet. The ride only got worse as I realized that they were using plastic grocery bags to stick in the seams of the plane to cut down on the outside air getting in. Yikes! We only flew about 300 feet up and had to hug the coastline the entire time. You know when you take a little dip in a plane and get that little jump in your stomach? It doesn't have the same fun effect when your little drop could put you on the ground. Anyway, we arrived safely and are hoping to take a bigger plane back to Stebbins tomorrow.

Now that plane ride sounds like one that would be worth the ticket price. It's gotta beat sitting down here in the lower 48 glued to the boob tube. Adventure - what else is there! Well, sleeping on the gym floor and eating bland food doesn't sound to adventurous, but you can't have it all.
I still am humming from our visit to Stebbins and truly appreciate the opportunity to share in your adventure. Good luck through the winter.

I'm not sure what would be worse, having to ride in that plane, or having to tell them my weight! :) Can't wait to see you both! I'm counting down!
